Sustainable Gifting Made Easy!

Eco-Friendly, Plastic-Wrap, Alternatives!

Sustainable Food Wrap Alternatives

Single-use food storage products are some of the biggest contributors to waste world-wide. Plastic wrap, single-use bags, and aluminum foil are all detrimental to the environment. While there is some small hope that some aluminum foil can be recycled (it must be 100% clean and a solid, large piece), there is no hope of recycling plastic cling wrap or plastic baggies. Studies have repeatedly shown how single-use plastic items are infiltrating and blocking water ways, harm land and sea creatures, and end up breaking down into micro plastics that we, in turn, ingest. Plastic pollution is no longer some distant environmental issue that does not impact our daily lives: it is here, on our doorstep. The year is 2021 and each of us is ingesting roughly a credit card’s worth of plastic, weekly. We need to care about reducing our plastic waste not just for the planet, but for our own health. Plus, single-use is so early 2000’s, get with the cool kids folks and use products that are made to last! *ok, I’ll step off my soap box*

Today, we have fantastic options that will both save you money and benefit the planet (and your health)! Here are some of our favorite plastic-wrap alternatives:

Silicone & Fabric Bowl and Food Covers

Silicone Covers:

Our new absolute favorites! Silicone covers are the upgraded version of the fabric bowl covers. They are 100% food safe, dishwasher, microwave, and freezer safe. Another benefit is they fit on practically everything while making an air-tight seal! Silicone is the eco-friendly alternative to plastic.

Here are some of our favorite qualities of silicone covers:

  • You can use them to seal jars and drinks
  • Because of their ability to stretch, food can rise above the rim of the lid and the seal will still be air-tight
  • Contain no toxic chemicals and are BPA free
  • Help to reduce food waste in your household
  • Help reduce plastic waste in your household
  • Come in a variety of sizes
  • They are cold and heat safe
  • They are microwave and dishwasher safe
  • Keeps food fresher for longer
  • Saves money

Fabric Covers

Fabric bowl covers follow the same concept of silicone food covers! They come in a variety of sizes and are excellent for covering bowls that either don’t have lids or who sadly have lost their lids. The biggest bonus to fabric bowl covers is that, to put it simply, they are beautiful! Express your personality and jazz up food storage (which, let’s admit, is a relatively bland task). Here are some things we love about fabric bowl covers:

  • Are 100% food safe
  • Chemical-free
  • They are dishwasher safe
  • Keeps food fresher for longer
  • Cold/Freezer safe
  • Large variety of sizes
  • Saves money
  • Brings beauty to your fridge/storage

Beeswax & Vegan Wrap

The original eco-friendly solution! We adore our beeswax wrap and it’s one of the most frequently purchased items from our store. Did you know that the average family goes through 24 rolls of plastic wrap each year? YES. Beeswax wrap is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, has a very long life (if used and taken care of), and the biggest benefit? It can cover literally almost everything.

Here are some things we love about beeswax wrap:

  • Are 100% food safe
  • Chemical-free
  • Anti-bacterial and anti-microbial
  • Can be molded to fit around any surface
  • Can fully wrap and contain food items such as apples, avocados, lemons, and onions
  • Is easy to hand-wash
  • Keeps food fresher for longer
  • Come in a variety of colors, patterns, and sizes so your personality and needs can shine!

Vegan wrap

Vegan wrap is the vegan alternative to beeswax wrap! These wraps are 100% plant based, generally being made from sustainably sourced tree resins and organic cotton! Use exactly as you would use beeswax wrap! The biggest benefit is that these are fully biodegradable!

Plastic cling wraps and aluminum foil are a thing of the past! Save your food safely while saving money and the planet! Which is your favorite option?
